This project was created alongside Sofie Lee and Will Burkart for a 48-hour design challenge held by SCAD. The challenge was to create mock style frames for one advertisement and two short Instagram spots showcasing Dropbox's newest addition, Dropbox Paper. This software is aimed to help artists and creatives collaborate on projects from remote locations. After a long brainstorming session, we decided to focus on showing Dropbox Paper's collaborative capability and streamlined UX design.
As a designer, keeping up with a studio workflow is essential to making revisions and meeting deadlines. Communication is key to developing concrete concepts with other creatives. Having a collaborative space to work in real-time allows any artist to co-create alongside his/her team remotely. Dropbox Paper provides a unique document-editing software geared towards creatives with a focus on collaboration. The workspace provides a world of flexibility, allowing any member of a team to create, revise, and organize.
Our concept takes the viewer into the world of Dropbox Paper. The piece opens in geometric forest, representing creativity and the exploration of ideas. The simple shapes making up the forest act as a resource in our story in the same way that assets can easily be added to paper, to supplement and build on any project or work document. from across the forest, two creatives work together to alter the world around them, using an interface that seems to appear out of thin air. As the team creates, edits, and revises, the viewer can see the world change around them, ultimately building into something big and beautiful. The story demonstrates both how Dropbox Paper functions as a software, in its user interactivity and iconography, and within a business in its ability to allow teammates to collaborate with each other remotely.
